Drishyam 2 picks up right where the first movie, Drishyam (2015), ended. To recap, in the first film, Vijay Salgaonkar (played by Ajay Devgn) finds himself in a tough situation after his daughter, Anju (Ishita Dutta), accidentally kills a boy. This boy was blackmailing her with a private video. To protect his family, Vijay hides the body and creates a story claiming they were all somewhere else when the incident happened. After a long investigation, he gets released due to a lack of proof, even though the police were accused of using harsh methods to get a confession from him and his family.
In the sequel, set six years later, the Salgaonkar family is doing better in life, but they are still haunted by their past. Anju is struggling with epilepsy, dealing with the guilt from what happened. Meanwhile, Meera Deshmukh (Tabu), the boy’s mother, and her husband Mahesh (Rajat Kapoor) are still looking for answers and haven’t forgiven Vijay’s family. The new Inspector General of Goa Police, Tarun Ahlawat (Akshaye Khanna), who is a friend of Meera, is determined to catch Vijay. He is just as clever and committed as Vijay, leading to a tense battle between the two.
The first movie closely followed the original Malayalam film, and this sequel is based on the follow-up to that film, which was released a year ago on streaming platforms. Unfortunately, this Hindi version doesn’t add anything new for those who have already seen the Malayalam sequel.
