Our forests are like our lungs. When we cut them down for development, we are harming ourselves. The North East region of India has some of the thickest forests left, filled with untouched nature. However, even here, people are starting to develop without planning, claiming it’s for progress. This film highlights these issues, mixing local stories and practical ideas to show why we need to protect the environment.
The film also addresses how the North East is often ignored by the rest of India. Many people don’t know much about this region and sometimes treat its citizens unfairly because of their looks or language differences. It’s important to include them more in mainstream India before they feel completely disconnected. There’s a story about a forest deity called Yapum, especially known in Arunachal Pradesh, who protects the forests. The filmmaker, Amar Kaushik, shares this folktale, showing that when people invade the forests, nature responds in its own way, sometimes violently.
The main character, Bhaskar, played by Varun Dhawan, is a greedy contractor from Delhi who gets a huge contract to build a road through the dense Ziro forests in Arunachal Pradesh. He knows this project will harm the environment and not really help the local people, but he still goes for it, using every trick to secure the deal and take land from the tribal communities. His cousin Jan supports him in this effort.
