Thank God is a remake of a Danish comedy called Sorte Kugler from 2009. The story follows Ayaan Kapoor, played by Sidharth Malhotra, who is a struggling real estate agent. He is married to a police officer and feels really frustrated with his life. He often takes out his anger on his wife, Ruhi (Rakul Preet Singh), and their daughter, Pihu (Kiara Khanna). Ayaan has low self-esteem, is very jealous, and has a crush on Nora Fatehi, who he sees as a fantasy.
One day, Ayaan gets into an accident and instead of waking up in a hospital, he finds himself in the afterlife. This afterlife looks like a huge stadium filled with souls, where he has to participate in a game show called The Game Of Life, hosted by Chitragupta (Ajay Devgn). To return to life, he needs to collect enough white balls, but if he gets too many black balls, he’ll end up in hell forever.
As he plays the game, Ayaan has to relive moments from his life and begins to see his mistakes. He realizes he has been selfish and has taken his relationships for granted. Each round of the game teaches him valuable lessons about humility and appreciation for the good things in his life. Chitragupta acts as his mentor, sharing dad jokes that actually hold some wisdom. By the end, Ayaan learns to accept his flaws and is willing to change.
Overall, Thank God is a fun escape that shows how everyone wishes for a second chance in life. It offers a journey of self-discovery for the main character.
