Shiraz Khan Afghani, known as ‘Sheru’ (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui), is a struggling actor who comes from a once-wealthy royal family but now lives in a small apartment in Mumbai. He imagines his simple home as a grand palace. He has a very clean cat named Elizabeth, who seems uninterested in anything happening around her.
Tasleem ‘Tiku’ Khan (played by Avneet Kaur) is a girl from Bhopal with dreams of becoming a famous actress. She agrees to marry Sheru, who looks much older than her, to escape her strict family. Tiku is pregnant with her boyfriend’s child, but Sheru kindly offers to take care of the baby. He pretends to be a junior artist in films but is actually involved in shady dealings, supplying girls to powerful men. To make quick money, he gets involved in drug trafficking but soon finds himself in trouble with a corrupt politician, a rival, and a gangster.
As a result, Sheru ends up in jail for a drug crime, and Tiku faces even worse situations, being forced into prostitution. Just when it seems like things can’t get any worse, Sheru tries to come to her rescue like a hero from a Bollywood movie. Director Sai Kabir, who also helped write the film, starts it off with a comedic tone, making it feel like a lighthearted look at the film industry for the first few minutes.
